Sleigh, Barbara

Barbara Grace de Riemer Sleigh (1906-1982) was the daughter of Bernard Sleigh (1872-1954), an English mural painter, stained-glass artist, illustrator and wood engraver, best known for his work An Ancient Mappe of Fairyland, Newly Discovered and Set Forth which is in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.. She worked for the BBC's Children's Hour, but under the rules at the time had to leave when she married a colleague, David Davis, who later became its Head. She is best known for her books about Carbonel, a regal personage of the feline persuasion.
