Rupert Books

Rupert the Bear was created by Mary Tourtel and continued for many decades by Alfred Bestall. The books are highly collectable.
The Monster Rupert 1948 (Mary Tourtel)The Monster Rupert books appeared in the 1930s and reappeared at intervals. This ReproJacket is for the Monster Rupert book of 1948. By this time Tourtel had long retired and Alfred Bestall had taken over. In fact, 1948 was the year of Mary Tourtel's death. The illustration, of Rupert talking to a lizard with a bicycle, had been used for the cover of another Monster Rupert book in 1932, with a different set of stories.
