Jones, Harold

Harold Jones (1904-1992) was an artist, illustrator and author of children's books. He started life as a farmer but, having won an art scholarship in 1924, went to study at the Royal College of Art. His first book was a collaboration with Walter de la Mare. During the Second World War he served in the Royal Engineers, and one of his tasks was to help draw the D-Day maps for the invasion of mainland Europe.

It's assumed to have been issued in 1940 (Edwin Brown, In Pursuit of C. S. Lewis., Part 2, 35).
