Bacon, C W

Cecil Walter Bacon (1905-92) was born in Battle, Sussex, and studied at Hastings School of Art.  After a spell in the RAF he was transferred in 1942 to the Ministry of Information.  In 1946 he began a career as a freelance illustrator, drawing for Radio Times, The Listener and London Transport, as well as illustrating a variety of books.
A Traveller in Italy, 1st edn 1964 (H V Morton)A better title would have been A Traveller in Northern Italy as only the northernmost four regions were visited.  The author later wrote another book on southern Italy.
